Lokmotivy řady Re 4/4III (nebo Re 430) jsou gotthardské lokomotivy. Kromě převodovky jsou shodné s Re 4/4II, ale mají jiný mechanický převodový poměr, a tedy počáteční tažnou sílu asi o 30 kN vyšší než Re 4/4 II. Maximální rychlost se tak sníží o 15 km/h, což však pro zamýšlené místo použití nemá žádné významné nevýhody. Celkem 21 těchto 80tunových lokomotiv postavily 4 švýcarské lokomotivky v letech 1967 až 1971.

Re 4/4II (nebo dnes Re 420) jsou univerzální lokomotivy pro osobní i nákladní vlaky. Těžké vlaky mohou být taženy ve dvojité trakci, často společně s Re 6/6. Model Re 4/4II se vyráběl 21 let (1964 až 1985). 276 lokomotiv bylo dodáno SBB a jedna MThB. Všechny lokomotivy jsou vybaveny systémem vícenásobného řízení. Model Re 4/4/II je skutečně nenápadný výkonný stroj. Navzdory kompaktní a malé konstrukci má výkon 4700 kW (tj. asi 6320 k), maximální rychlost 140 km/h a počáteční tažnou sílu 255 kN.

After that, when the Swiss Federal Railways carried out major revisions, fire-red became their standard colour. As one of the last locomotives of the SBB Group, the locomotive, now designated 430 364-0, has kept the green colour during all her service life.

The Re 420, originally (and still widely called) Re 4/4II, series are the most common electric locomotives of the Swiss Federal Railways. They are used for passenger services throughout Switzerland alone or in pairs. For freight services, they are sometimes paired with the Re 620, especially in mountainous regions. That pairing is referred to by the term Re 10/10. The Re 430, originally known as the Re 4/4III, are a derivative of the Re 420 modified for higher traction but lower speed.

The Re 420 locomotives were produced over a period of 21 years, from 1964 to 1985.
